Rubidium Poem
Rubidium, oh Rubidium why don’t you get Along with water?
You are an alkali metal after all, is that why you hide in Vacuum Tubes?
Your beauty is made up of 12 elements
But still, you look good with only two elements
You make such a beautiful purple color in fire works
Did you know you are the 16th most abundant element in the earth's crust?
You are so special to me you just don’t know it, But yet I don’t even like your Silver Color
I hope one day your friends Rb-85 and Rb-87 can come together
For a month or two so we can make some photographic Films to tell the story of when we first met
The year was 1861, when Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchoff introduced me to you
At that time I was afraid of flying
That’s is why I need you to come with me to fly a space vehicle
Do you remember how we got so close to the sun?
I was afraid you might melt because it was getting close to 102.002 °F
So we came back to earth; and started exercising
But still your atomic weight is about 85g |

In the first group of elements, Rubidium you’ll find
Which makes fire so purple, the show is sublime
Its silvery color makes it dazzling to see
It was discovered in lovely Germany
Satellites use Rubidium clocks
Though since they’re atomic, there are no “tick tocks”
37 is it’s atomic number
Those who think hydrogen’s better, are making a blunder
When it reacts with water, there may be a toll
Rubidium’s mass is 85 grams per mole
Its name is Latin for “deepest red”
Its 24 isotopes mess with my head
[Kr] 5s1 is the electron configuration
But its Chinese clocks will soon be lost in translation.
I've been doing a project, which allows for some knowlegde
Of which i'm not sure i'll be needing in college
Rhodium was the element i was s'posed to look up
But rubidium's more interesting and that's wuzzup. |

Rubidium is an alkaline metal.
With those in group seventeen, it’ll settle.
It was discovered in Germany
By Bunsen and Kirchoff by spectroscopy
The atomic symbol is Rb.
With one electron wanting to be free
Thirty-seven protons in this element
The atomic number, they’ll represent
Deep in the Earth’s crust the element came
With Hydrogen it will burst into flame.
This is utilized in atomic clocks.
Thus, be wary of the danger in rocks.

Oh Rubidium, your atomic number is thirty seven
Mix you with water we'll get blown to heaven
Rubidius was your name, which means dark red
Thank you for taking tumors out of my head
Soft and silvery white in hue
Yellowishand violent flames erupt from you
Bunsen discovered you in 1861
Believe it or not, this poem is done |

Rubidium, rubidium blows up with water as
big as a stadium
When you expose it to air
you get a chemical flare |

Rubidium
Sitting under the bridge
listening to the cars
drive over me.
A dusty syringe left
of my left foot, cracked and
rusty. Dirty white jeans with the
scent of excrement laying in front of me
like a strung out whore.
With smoke slowly drifting out of my nose
I drop a small piece of rubidium
into a puddle of water
that is now my only friend. |
