The Wonderful Krypton
This element has the symbol Kr,
And it helps a fluorescent lamp shine like a star.
Its name means “hidden” in Greek,
And it can only stand -251 degrees of heat.
It has 8 electrons in its outer shell,
And is a noble gas, the periodic table tells.
This gas is chemically inert,
And if you inhale it, it might hurt.
William Ramsay and Morris Travers evaporated liquid air,
Discovered Krypton, and decided to share
The discovery. There are 32 isotopes, 5 stable
And one radioactive. You cannot place Krypton on a table.
It is Superman’s home, up in space,
And has around 50 neutrons down in its base.
Its half-life is 250,000 years
And can be found in both the northern and southern hemispheres.
Its major use is for a krypton fluoride laser
And maybe one day will be a stock raiser.
It replaced the standard metre and put up a fight
But then was replaced by the speed of light.
It is not magnetic at all
And is only 88 pm tall.

“Kr”azy
Krypton is noble and stable
Number thirty six on the periodic table
Derived from liquid air
This see-through element has a flair
For showing its colors and making us stare
You may want to look twice
Because it has a hefty price
Practical uses are hard to find
There are only a few it’s been assigned
Laser beams and fluorescent lights
Need krypton to shine with all their might
There is one thing that’s a bit of a letdown
The naming of Superman’s hometown
Is the real reason for this element’s renown

To light up your life
Or just a dark hole
Finding the element krypton
Would be your number one goal
Down the airport runway
Or take a picture with light
You could produce liquid air
Will it work, it just might
So when that bulb burns out
And your lighted room is gone
You have to search for something
It might as well be krypton |

The element krypton is found everywhere;
It lights up your lamp and is part of the air.
But to its everlasting shame
This inert gas has gained its fame
Not for the good it has done on earth,
But because it's the planet of Superman's birth. |

Krypton
Krypton!
Krypton
If any suffix had been placed
upon your name we would be screwed
With no more Superman
or Three Doors Down for '01
Summer tunes
I know Potassium tries to steal your glory and your fame
But disregard his symbol because you're the only "K"
You're special Krypton, but I doubt you really truly know
Because you're just an element
and you don't have a soul. |

Krypton
To find something refined is rare these days,
even thinner the chance of one so noble.
So I searched eBay.
What a find:
Pure Kryptonite, $29.95!
Odorless, colorless, tasteless,
just what I need.
They even gave shipping and handling free.
Now to be tactful
And cryptic, for sure,
While mixing with water, and putting in tea.
That will teach Clarke to use his X-ray vision
On another woman! |
