Early Praise for "Releasing the Demons"

Review of Releasing the Demons by Sirrus Poe

Review by Linda Lee Copyright 2003

Sirrus Poe’s, “Releasing the Demons”, takes you on a parallel
journey where fiction and reality go hand in hand. From the start
to the end, his short stories and poems will keep you reading.
He takes you to the dark realm of the supernatural, and into the
darkest reality of the modern world in which we all live. As you
read, you start to ask yourself, “Where does the fiction start
and where does it end?”, as this writer can make you wonder if
there really is a difference, as he intertwines the two aspects
in a very convincing way. That maybe, the things we think are
not real, really could be and the things we know are real, we
wish we didn’t exist.

This writer has the writing techniques of some of our most famous
horror and fiction writers. If he was hoping for a base hit with
this book, all I can say is, Sirrus Poe has batted a HOME RUN! I
cannot wait to hear more from the very talented writer.

If you enjoy Stephen King, Dean Koontz, or Michael Crichton, you
will surely enjoy Sirrus Poe’s, “Releasing the Demons”.

Releasing the Demons
By Sirrus Poe

FIVE STARS*****

“Releasing The Demons” is a nightmarish collection of bizarre and
disconcerting short stories, plus it includes dark poetry that
takes you to another realm of consciousness. This book brings to
the surface a side of humanity that is seldom seen in the light
of day. “Her Diary,” a short story, is filled with utter despair
and regret; it leaves you still curious about the plight of the
characters. “Benjamin James” and “Footprints of Fear,” both short
stories, are drenched with fear of the unknown; these stories make
a soul feel uneasy about being alone…in the dark, and completely
vulnerable to what’s hidden and hungry for a taste of pure madness.

The poetry speaks loud and clear; the various topics rattle one’s
usually content thoughts about life. I especially enjoyed reading
“Nature’s Haze,” “Towering Pines Consumed Her,” and “Questioning.”
There is an alternate world out there; it’s on the edge of darkness
and Sirrus Poe has brought it into the light; this book will haunt
you.

“Releasing The Demons” is intriguing; it will leave you wondering
what will come next from the chilling mind of Sirrus Poe.

Review:

Releasing the Demons is a walk into the darker side of human nature.
Sirrus Poe explores both the unnatural and the inhuman by creating
visual images that you’ll see through the eyes of his characters and
hear in the syntax of his poems. If you are willing to confront some
“demons” of your own, then you will find this compilation of short
stories and verse hard to put down.

Review:

Releasing The Demons is a superb collection of tales and poems,
each interconnected and yet separated by the strange journeys of the
human experience. Each one presents merciless insights into the fears,
weaknesses, prejudices, failures, and triumphs that we all encounter
on the roads we choose in life. Poe has interwoven elements ranging
from subtle psychological terror to pure horror as he explores these
angles of humankind.

This is a disturbing and powerful collection that will haunt the reader’s
memory long after the book is closed.

A taste of one story from the book:

Come on a haunting and soul-searching journey as Poe’s angst-filled
stories and poetry take you into the sometimes-horrific world of human
weakness, frailties and prejudices.

In HER DIARY, Detective Chambers finds a blood-smeared diary at a crime scene that is as inextricably unexplainable as it is horrific. Rather than submit the diary as evidence she hides it in her coat and takes it back to her home, her sofa, and her bottle of mind-numbing alcohol. From the pages of the diary she revisits her own traumas and learns that although we cannot control everything, we do control the choices we make in life. Through her own choices, Detective Chambers lost the one thing that mattered most: her husband, and only now does she realize that the real horror in life is from making the wrong decisions, and not making the effort to correct them until it is too late.
