Today My Shadow Told Me a Story
Today my shadow told me a story
As I sat outside in the morning glory
My shadow said I had become quite gray
Change yourself now or soon you will pay
I looked at my shadow, Incredulous at first
What have I done deemed worthy of this curse?
Why is my shadow in this sweet summer’s glow
Telling me things I just don’t want to know?
It said to me, that in order to live
“You must undo the past and be willing to give”
I said to my shadow, “How can this be done?”
It replied to me, “Stand up and face the sun”
As I turned around, I felt quite weary
The sun was steaming hot, my shadow behind me
I looked at the sun, and felt reassured
I put on my sunglasses and the sunshine was blurred
My shadow then told me that I was living through a lens
Similar to my glasses filtering out the sun’s friends
I needed to change my selfish being
And become the man that to all was worth living
I said to my shadow that I know I’m not perfect
I have my faults and to you that’s no secret
I am closed off not because I don’t care
But rather because I have been living in despair
I trusted those around me who I loved the most
Only to find out that their love was a ghost
My shadow replied, “I know it hurts deep
But trust in your shadow and the pain will not keep
Live your life now with a new opened heart
And go out into the world even though it’s apart
Always face the sun and add value to people’s lives
And in end I promise your joy will not die”
