Welcome to My Sweet Shadow

The darkside behind each burning day
Subconsciously within, always dwelling
Desolate warning, one must stay away
My shadow unfeeling and often deceiving
Attractive and bold, inviting you to play

Admonition given by the light
Obscured by the inevitable darkness
Each shadow put to sleep in twilight
Where the demons come to witness
My selfish being marauding by midnight

Insight from what is always gray
My shadow following each last pace
Knows where I’ve been unlike others
Each nightfall come I fall from grace
God help me as I lay beneath the covers

Hidden desire my sweet shadow unveil
Never judging what is sinful or divine
Look to the clouds for the answers
The greatest shadow covering our sunshine
Sweet shadow in timeless gray never falters

In a world made of black and white
Gray is what makes the guilt wash away
Reprieve for the misplaced soul
The haze that makes everything okay
My sweet shadow would know

Something within me has become gray
Just like my sweet shadow
Always fighting for the light
Blackness drowning out the white
Darkness pulling me below
