When April is Gone

Condiments are placed / aligned,
on the checkered table cloth
ironed free of folding marks,
showing respect to sloth
the modern motivator that gathers us to sin.
It is the height of the seven deadlys
and yet the easiest to win.

Other prizes up for grabs include
marbles and a gun
a shiny mashed potato spoon
and a frog (that might be fun),
a bag of filthy epithets
for use when being crude
and a metal hat and baseball bat
some use for being lewd.

The poets and the painters
have gone off to write the news
on silicon / electron
mastication tubes
that rival any medium from history
and beyond
the happy place that has no face
we call the twilight zone.

Oh don't be so mystified
the meaning here is clear.
When April is gone May is born
and June will bring the beer.
The whole damned worlds' gone simple
forgotten what we are,
flesh and bones
that have no homes
in the space between the stars.
