Guests
Beyond the porch and up a gentle rise,
The woods open upon a small meadow.
Watching the cottontails playing here
Is a gift welcomed of the spirit’s heart,
The young ones frolicking as young do;
Leaping, running, fur garbed amusers.
Deer foraging for acorns, alongside elk,
Are in abundance in this hidden place,
And here, wild turkeys feed without fear.
Giant ponderosa pines whisper softly,
Tickled by gentle mountain breezes;
The oaks, cloaked now in fall’s red robe
Lend cheery splendor to the hillside scene.
Tranquility owns this secluded paradise,
We being simply appreciative guests,
Observing nature in her own home;
Thankful for the opportunity to be here.
