the truest friend

it's trickling
down the side of your face
and yet it hurts me so
to see you cry
rain from your soul

i'm sure it's been building
and building and building
in utter dread
for this day
that you knew
would have to happen

when he'd blow your world apart
men will do that, you know...
and i'm not here to say i told you so
i would never do that
you can figure these things out
quite well on your own, i see

i am here for you
i am your friend
i will always be here
and help you
through this sadness
and not leave your side
that is how love really works

and i know, believe me...i know
it's not easy
to watch him just walk away
he was your life
he was your being
he was supposed to stand by you
and hold your hand
through life's many
peaks and valleys

guess he fell short
but it's not your fault
nobody ever wants this to happen
but don't despair, friend
i'm right here...by you always

i'll be here to help to dry the tears
and to give you two big nice ears
that will listen to everything
that you have to say on the matter
and i won't judge you

for i know, better than most people
that real love does not judge
but is given most freely
and i have an endless supply for you
so let me try and cheer you up
give you my little hand
lick you on the face...

and then maybe you can take me for a walk later!

Very sweet

worthwhile ending, made me smile. raskin
