rattlesnake

you must feel every vibration
from the ground as you slither across it
with that tongue of yours
so sharp, black and wet
and those eyes
the intensity of those
green and black orbs
as they cut through your victims
sending quite the chill
popping up their spines
the sharpness of those teeth
the whirl of that hissssssssssss
that echoes on within my brain
every time that i see you for days
your leathery dry skin seems to
crackle in the sunlight
as you coil and look me
directly in the eye
with your sinister stare
and bare those long and crooked fangs
you eat your rats whole
and you don't even spit out the bones, do you?
is that supposed to be...impressive?
and the noise oh that shaking from your tail
that seems to loosen the very sky itself
and knock everything within such
a tightly packed world out of place
i guess i can't say that you don't come
without a warning
and me, being no fool, will yes
most definitely heed that
so i bid you a good day
and i hope you have a nice life
or at least as nice as it can be
in the cold-blooded little world
in which you must live
and i will turn and slowly
(well...maybe not so slowly)
walk away
and find a better way.

snakes feeding

Interesting images. I was watching a snake feeding on a big bullfrog the other day, what interested me was the snake was afraid of me. I watched the snake for a bit as it tried to retreat with this frog. The frog was half way in, face arms sticking out of the snakes mouth. What struck me was how vulnerable that snake was even with great camoflage. I think it's like that with people as well. I let the snake live because it serves a purpose, but I recognise it. Good one Mark. raskin

snakes do serve a purpose...

and I would never kill one, I don't think...maybe if it were attacking someone...but they usually will choose not to attack (outside of the things they eat) unless extremely provoked. I like to think that I have a healthy respect for snakes and stay out of their way and I hope that they show me the same respect.
I wrote this poem about snakes, partly, but I must say, there have been certain people in my life that this poem is very fitting for as well. And I show them the same respect I do their reptilian counterparts. I stay the hell away from em!
Thanks for the nice comment.
Take care,
Mark
