i saw you there
stretched out before me
and looping wildly
from side to side
and up and down
in the distance
you're a sandy path
so soft on the toes
nice and comfortable
broken in...yes
you're my path
just for me
and i'm forever glad
and grateful
that i had the courage
to find you

so many people
choose the paved roads
laid out so neatly
the traffic conforms
just ever so perfectly
into the pattern
the grid
the road they're told
they're supposed to be on
and don't get me wrong
that's quite all right
for them
if that's what they want
what they choose
what feels right to them
like an old pair of sneakers
i respect that

but it's not my path
my path has flowers
and dandelions
all mixed and intermingled
along the way
toads and rabbits
hoppin and boppin
in every direction
and waterfalls yes
that appear out of nowhere
that i can slide down
and there is always a view
of the ocean here
with its waves of mighty blue
so i can keep in tune
with the tides

there's no buildings
no billboards no smog
to obscure my view
of the sun
as i make my way
and the moon is always full
and forever bright
on my path
because i understand
and can wrap my mind
around her many sides
and there's trees
there has to be trees
big tall ones
with goofy faces on them
smiling at me and saying "hello"
and wishing me luck upon
my many journeys

and dogs and cats
yes they must be plentiful
and chipper and playful
and happy and furry
no leashes here
no chance of getting
hit by a car
we are all free!
and the air is so crisp
with just a hint of salt
from the sea
to fuel my passions
and a whispurr of a wind
to dance around me
a celebration
of movement
nothing stays still
on my path

on my path is music
so sweet...melodic
at times
flutes harps pianos
gentle guitar
and yes...drums
there has to be drums
a little loudness never hurt anyone
now did it?
we like to rock on my path
and why wouldn't we?
we're always young here
who wants to grow up?

and my path talks to me
and comforts me
and consoles me
and tells me it's quite all right
to be who i am
and not to think
that i have to be
like all the other travelers
around me
amazing...
all the other travelers on my path
get to go their own way
and nobody crashes!
we take the time
to move around each other
and appreciate everyone's right
to find their own direction

yes this is my path
lined with my stories
and these are the miles
that make up my life.
