i watch the window
on this lazy day
as the rain hits
all the drops trickle down
and run together
making art
in their own special way
out of the randomness of nature
the wind the light the water

and i see much
as these droplets fall
and converge into each other
making little streams
between me and
the wet world outside
and the streams
they glisten a little
and they give the illusion
of many different creatures
on my little window

look...there's a lion
with a firey mane
and big, long teeth
see his legs?
isn't he noble?
and there's a little duck
taking flight against
the cloudy skies
wings spread way out
really a noble bird
see? there's the neck
and the bill
i can almost hear him quack

all those little spots
over in that corner
those are puppies
yapping and nipping
at each other
playing in the rain
no doubt getting
all wet and muddy
mischevious little things!
and that one looks
like a camel
with its giant mountain
of a hump on its back
you're a long way
from the desert, buddy!

and if i'm not mistaken
those two big ones
way up there
are hippos
kissing each other
whilst cooling themselves
in a big muddy lake
and this one resembles
a crystal butterfly
so glasslike and shiny
with just a hint of color
peeping in its wings

i see the sun now
off in the distance
pushing its way through the clouds
and the rain stops
and soon my little animal kingdom
it slowly disappears
poor mister lion
losing his majestic mane
where will he rule now?
soon the window
is pretty much dry
save for a little drop
here and there
where did they go?

and i look outside
into the distance
and i see a rainbow
and i make my eyes all fuzzy
and i feel goose bumps
and i see them all out there
my little menagerie
dancing off
on top of the rainbow
back to their magical land
and i wave goodbye
and i lick my lollipop
and i fall from
the high window ledge
onto the floor below me
and mom gets mad!
