common sense may soon kick in
i spend my time in cloudy streams
swimming after not-lucid dreams
the games i played i played to win
oh...common sense may soon kick in
burned my bridges so blazing high
regrets they're piled up to the sky
hurting you was my greatest sin
hey...common sense may soon kick in
i've ventured far on many roads
gathering heartbeak by the loads
and sealed my own in solid tin
well...common sense may soon kick in
another town another kiss
one niters that just make me miss
your gentle passion from within
man...common sense may soon kick in
but i fear now it's way too late
my temptation has sealed my fate
another tear slides off your chin
sigh...common sense may soon kick in
and so we're better off apart
love you enough to save your heart
i'll just go soak my woes in gin
damn...common sense may soon kick in

Yep
I can fully relate here, burnt my own bridges many a time, and oh yes, I'm still waiting for common sense to kick in too. Gin does help somewhat in the meantime! Thanks for the read.

Kris
thanks...
Bridges aren't very hard at all to burn these days it seems. Glad you enjoyed it.
Take care,

regrets
Yup, I've got a few regrets and lost ones as well. But you live, learn, and move on and often are better off in doing so. The gin does help soothe the lingering sting, however...
this poem kinda sounds like a sad country song, doesn't it?
I didn't think about it when I wrote it, but it does...and those always seem to end with someone washing away their problems with booze as well!
Martinis all around!
Thanks for the comment!
Take care,
