Tearjerker

I was driving back home
With a suitcase of defeats
And a beer bottle half empty
In my passenger seat

Leaving your memories
With the city's neon lights
Disappearing so swiftly
Before my naked sight

Quarter pass eight
I decided to reroute my plan
Parked before the turnpike
I raised my right hand

Unclenched the steering wheel
Looked head-on at a fading silhouette
I resisted a tear for a moment
And gave the city my final salute

I stepped out of the car
And felt you from your beyond
By then, the tear I was defying
Freefell in just a second

One multiplied to a million
They just gushed forth
Staining my cheeks
Like sad paints of some sorts

I licked the last few drops
Of water flowing from my eyes
Tasting freedom, at last, of this
Whispering summernight

Grabbed my car keys and
Raised my middle finger up high
Blew the city a kiss and
Bid our love goodbye
