Once Upon A Dream
Then suddenly, you awaken.
You open your eyes
to a world outside our bed.
Wide-awake to a reality
I only hope to understand.
You see me, fast asleep.
Dreaming.
Drowning in our promise.
Yet, you still choose to go on
by yourself and leave.
You leave me with
a kiss and a forever.
You silently step beyond
the bed’s edges,
one foot dancing
against the other.
One step at a time,
walking further and
further away into the horizon.
Treading alleys and pathways to
a freedom, you wish to find.
Breaking the promise
I am dreaming of still.
To a faraway land of another, you go.
Leaving me sleeping
desperately through the endless nights,
with only your pillow cradling me.
Naive to your departure
and not knowing you are not
to be found by my side,
dreaming, like me.
Dreaming of only us
and that promise.
Your countless days
turn to centuries of resentment.
Weary, you look back
at a familiar shadow-
of a bed, once so reassuring and warm.
Guilt stricken,
you abruptly decide to comeback and
sleep again. Hoping to be
comforted by the dream
you abandoned.
Walking fast,
with one foot entangling the other,
you search tirelessly
through the alleys and pathways to lead
you back home,
back to our bed.
Then, in a dreamy moment,
you find me.
With my eyes shut
and seemingly at peace.
Seemingly still sleeping,
still dreaming.
You settle in quietly, with memories
that ill-fated night
you decided to go astray.
You lay yourself to the bed,
and go back to sleeping.
Back to dreaming,
back to the promise.
Knowing for certain,
I too, am sleeping.
Not knowing, I am now
dreaming another dream.
Another life. A better love.
Not dreaming about our promise.
The promise you left me with.
A promise I am now
breaking.
