A Crayon's Simple Wish

I never wish to be yellow,
And glisten from the sun, too high

I never wish to be blue,
And be speckled over oceans and skies

I never wish to be green,
And be perched with an envious eye

I never wish to be pink,
And be a frilly and ruffled butterfly

I never wish to be white,
And be a feather washed out, so spry

I never wish to be purple,
And be a monarch, regal and sly

I never wish to be black,
And be plagued with gloom and fright

I never wish to be orange,
And be a harvested citrus delight

I never wish to be red,
And through veins’ profuse awry

I simply wish to be brown,
And be the color to bid last bye

To the coffin, reeled six feet under,
Lay on my patch, as you die
