All In the Rules
Pages of history blooded with sacrifices,
But look what you do left to your own devices.
Grow fat on the profits of the common man's toil,
Only to yourselves do you ever act loyal.
Dare to use 'honourable' when you address one another,
When you daily betray every sister and brother.
Man and woman alike blind to your failings,
For this suffragettes chained themselves to the railings?
Smithfields stained red with Wat Tyler's blood,
So we can pay for your houses in nice neighbourhoods?
Chartists mown down to supress their 'sedition',
Their lives bought you that huge television.
As your countrymen struggle to pay their taxes and bills,
Suggest you pay for your meals and you'd run to the hills.
You must look down with scorn on the 'huddled masses'
But you're ok now - you're in the political classes.
Fighting wars remains the preserve of the brave common man,
For I never hear of your kids dying in Afghanistan.
You look chastened on telly but when the new day dawns,
Bet you're back in your study filling in the forms.
You feel persecuted by reports from those newspaper ghouls,
For your conscience is clear.....cos it's all the rules.
