Christmas Gone By
I'd like to go back to Christmas' gone by
where lights shone on presents, under trees to the sky
When gifts were bought, with great care, love and need
not given with want, popularity and greed
Days filled with smells .... apple, cinnamon and spice
contained now in candles, not nearly as nice
The sweet smell of pine lingering soft with this fare
now comes from tin cans, sprayed throughout the air.
Christ still in Christmas and love did abound
love melts like snowfall and Christ isn't found
The magic of Santa and eight tiny reindeer
believe in them now, ridicule, a child's fear
Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse
replaced now by Visa, sending bills to the house
Gift tags were signed, "love you... your mom and dad"
now given from mom .... there's more gifts at dad's
I still have those memories of Christmas' gone by
when I see what it's come to, a tear fills my eye
Seven kids standing 'round, a live tree to the sky
Merry Christmas to all and to those days good-bye.
