The ones workin 9-5’s…6'S, 7's & 8’s
The ones who drive across cities
From home to work and back again
Trying not to be late
Hoping the cop on the shoulder misses them on the radar
Praying that the engine in the car doesn’t overheat
Taking antidepressants, drinking coffee, and popping vitamins to stay on their feet
Here’s to all the baby mommas
Holding it down
Taking the train, bus or walking to get around
Working all day then helping with homework at night
Then feeding kids and breaking up fights
Before they even have a chance to to sit down
Or rest their feet or eat
Hoping to get out for a few while there's still light

Here’s to all the big daddy’s
Coming home instead of the bar
Walking in looking more like they’ve been run over by a car
Than working underneath them
Pulling off their stinky shoes
And poppin the top on that beer
They’ve waited for all day to drown their blues

Here’s to everyone
Working in cubes
In thankless jobs
Where the only answer is ‘will do’
When they really want to say 'SCREW YOU!'
Making the impossible ‘possible’
As they wait for each paycheck
So they can hand out what the government didn’t take
Hoping there’s enough for groceries, housing and other bills
And maybe enough left over for a few cheap thrills

Here’s to those trying to make their own thing happen
The entrepreneurs and risk takers
Wanna be money makers
Barely getting by
Believin in dreams
Selling CD’s, Avon, and other things
Here’s to the the ones who refuse to give up
Workin 9-5 and then school
Cause they know what’s up

Here’s to everyone who’s buying lotto tickets
And going to seminars
Hopin to get rich
Because for all of these hero’s….
The reality of all of this work…
Is that life is a bitch!
