Like reading my favourite book with a sad ending

I can read your emotions down to the bone,

Every detail on every line on every page

Infer why and what happened with you and your family and that girl and that boy

And sometimes I get happy with the thought that maybe one day I’ll be the girl that you’ll be talking about and be confused about

It stings when you mention other girls and then the wound heals but then it hurts again and then it’s okay

Because you’re my favourite character anyway

Part of me wants to shut you out, close the door on wishful thinking and getting hurt

Shut my ears and block out the sound of your voice

Close my eyes and forget the curve of your smile

So that I can maybe toss the keys of our friendship away

But how can I?

In a book, a page is just a page, but with you it’s full of familiarity

Just afraid that like a book, we might someday come to an end

Heartrending in its unforgiving sincerity

So here I am, bookmark in hand, sitting idle

Should I read the book the way someone else wrote it to be

Or close it and write my own

Torn in the crossroads, should I go with truth or continue to live a lie

I’m on the road, and I don’t know which way to go

There’s the left, where we’ll be friends but nothing more

There’s the right, where nothings promised but I won’t have to put up an act

Or, I could stay here in the middle, close my eyes, take a sigh and wait for an oncoming car to run me over...

while i deny and ignore what i feel for you
