What Did You Think?

Did you think that leaving me would be so easy?
I could not stand and watch you go.
I had to protest
I had to fight
To show that leaving wasn’t right.

Did you think I would stand silent?
As you walked away
I had to say something
And I’ve said so many things,
Each and every day.

Was I supposed to be pleased?
That you excised me from your life
When you broke the news
You also broke my heart.
And my sadness grows
As we near the day
That we are not together
As husband and wife

We all make mistakes
Throughout our life
I only hope you’ll forgive mine
And that one day we’ll find
That we can be together
Because that day you’ll see
The mistakes I made with you
Never again will you see.

As hard as I should have tried
And as hard as do now
Will be what you will see for the rest of you life
When one day if you can see
Me for the new me.
