Yet another day I wake to sadness
For we’re one day closet to our end
You came away from your lawyer
With the papers that make us no more.
We’re one day closer to that day that I dread.

How did it feel
When they were placed into your hands?
Did it make you sad or bring you joy
Do you feel relief in the knowledge
We’re one day closer to the day I dread?

What are your plans for that day?
Will you go and right away
Start a new life that is no longer filled
With thoughts of you and me?

You’ve said to me more than once
That I need to move on.
But how can I move on with my life?
When the key to me is you.

Last night I asked you if you thought
That you had tried as hard as me
To make our commitment work again
And your answer was a surprise to me
You said you did not do as much
You said because the pain you felt
Was too much for you to bear

And after two years
You could not remove the hurt.

So you see how hard that I have tired
To make our love more right.
