Now I See
Now I See
© 2009 Scottie Allman
For so long and still today,
I had a love that burned as fire.
But when you said that yours went out,
To great ends I went to stop the worst.
And I asked you then would I look and feel like a fool,
Reassurance came from you that it would not be.
It wasn’t what it looked like is what you said,
It was about my mistake and nothing more.
Over time I found the things,
You wanted hidden to save face,
To save your image as the martyr.
Now I see you played me the fool,
And with ease the strings were pulled.
Without guilt you make me pay,
And enjoy the one you think is your sign.
Where once your friends,
Thought I was your life.
Now they know it is the one of fifty hours.
Many around me knew all along,
And left me living in the dark to not see.
Wallowing in ignorant bliss,
Until it was all over and you were then gone.
