5-31-09 I Own The Reasons

I own the reasons we are here,
This whole mess is because of me.
You tried to love me with all you heart,
But I took you for granted nearly from the start.

I didn’t know just what I had,
As I sat wrapped up in my own little world.
But then one day her love was gone
It went out because of me.

So much pain that I caused
To everyone that matters to me.
I hurt them so much and I couldn’t see,
Where my selfish ways would lead.

The pain I feel is because of me,
Standing alone because of lust,
Standing alone from selfishness,
No one to blame . . . it is all on me.

Because of me our son now knows,
What it is to have parents in separate homes.
Two separate places for his clothes,
His own tooth brush on two different sinks.
Two different pillows to lay his head.

Because of me,
He one day may feel,
The sting of resentment
For someone new in his home.

I own the reasons we are here,
I own the pain you no longer care to take,
I own you not wanting to have me anywhere near,
I own the result of what I left in my wake.

For us to move forward
The one thing I must do,
Is to own all the reasons we are here.
