Faux Smiles And New Bodies

Mothers with their children,
A day at the pool.
So many of the mothers with children,
Are without wedding rings at this pool.
A sign of so many broken homes,
Families living a shattered American dream.

They try to look and be normal,
While spending a day in the sun,
Splashing and laughing,
To cover what went wrong.

Gathered in small clusters,
With not a wedded one around.
They talk of ex-husbands,
And what he has done
So many ring fingers,
Barren of gold,
As they try to live a little
Before they grow too old.

Faux smiles and new bodies,
All on parade
Looking for new husbands,
Among women, just like them
