My Pet

Some say I’m sneaky
because they can’t,
hear me creeping.
Softly, soundlessly
you turn around
and I am there, but
that is just my demeanor.

Some call me evil.
The way I stare
My green eyes glowing
The way I slink effortlessly
Through the night,
But that is just who I am.

Some say I’m lazy
Because I lay around
During the day.
But that is only because
I do my best work at
Night and need my rest.

A lot of people
Don’t like me
Because of who I am
But they don’t know me at all.

I can be your best friend
Your sweet, cuddly companion for life
I long for your attention
Which is why I follow you around

I don’t mean to trip you up
I just have to be near you
I have to know you love me.
You do love me don’t you?

I love you.
I show my love by
Bringing you presents.
You may not always like them
But they are from my heart.

I ask you for hugs
With my soft voice
Almost a whisper
Love me, please
I need some lovin’.

They say I look petrified
When you hold me and we dance
But with my head on your shoulder
I am enjoying the movements.

I show you my love
When I run to the door
After your long day at work
And I rub your legs for you.

I sit with you when
You are sad
And help soak
Up your tears.
I try to comfort you.

I have to be near you
I take my place by your side at night
Where your lover should be
But is not.
I have to protect you
From the things of the night.

I do not like when
You bring others like me
Into this house
This is my house
And you are my master.

So I lead you to believe
When in reality,
It is I, who is YOUR master
And you…
You are MY pet.
