At Day's End

At Day’s End

The spirits have awakened
The sun has set
I lie quietly allowing the day to forget

Our youth, your beauty
Life’s simple treasure
All vital for a heart and soul’s pleasure

Shadows dancing peacefully upon the wall
Listening to the new days that cautiously call
Sleep has yet to capture my eyes
For we battle with tired’s compromise

Live a little and also take
Now is one less breath that we must make
A day races by eventually two
All precious moments spent with you

We are growing old yet I don’t care
So long as every beat I possess
You are there

Slipping off quietly to bed
Next to you I place my head
Smiling and content we shall lay
For tomorrow is yet another day
