They'll Say

Today, a man will beat his wife (they’ll say)
And I don’t know why...
I don't know why
A thousand babies will cry, cry, cry
Wail for their mothers incessantly
Behind closed doors,
Stinking make-shift cots,
Shit-ridden beds,
Unkempt corridors,
Where sadder lives than ours eat dust, worm-laden rice
Crouch behind tower blocks, thus
Shooting up smack,
Heroin into toes, eyes, anything goes,
Anything goes, bomb bombs fly by!
The crunch of boots on withering bodies
The death-smell,
The noise of killing when the dusk settles
And wives saying prayers
And husbands saying prayers
And children saying prayers
And priests saying prayers
And strangers, scourging for bread somewhere
From sweaty city skips,
Screaming out for health care,
Forced to beg,
Watched over by an inhospitable government instead?
Sipping whisky, tallying figures,
1.2 million, dead dead dead
- some from suicides
(let’s keep that a secret from the public)
‘Can’t stand that silent scream inside’

I can’t cry anymore,
I can’t cry anymore,
I am beyond, grief.

sad state

It's a sad world out there with all the abuse, poverty, and government corruption that runs rampant in so many places. Really a powerful and loud poem here, Debs. It does quite a good job of portraying the inhumanity. Seems a little different from your other writes, too, stylistically.

Ta Neo,

It's something I feel very very passionately about,
all the atrocities, injustices right?, and the more I listen to the media the more angry I get, the more sadder I become.

Maybe it's time I did more to help,
instead of just whining about it!

~I Stand With You~

Deb,

Nothing can compare to the love of others. If we cared, if we truly cared, we would know true love. We need to redefine love for today's world.

I treasure your passion and talent to paint truth, and give vision to a cruel reality! I stand with you!

Bravo!

Warm regards,

Kathy

Kath,

Thanks so much for a truly honest comment, and for your friendship.

sometimes it's good to write about these things,
and stand by the power of our convictions.

p.s I will try to catch up with yours and others poems in the next couple of days of so.

~Sweetsquirel~

Debs,

You are not a scarey squirel...you are a sweet squirel! Keep storing those nuts for the winter. Peace!

Warm regards,

Wow debs, what a strong write here. I like how you grabbed it all by the balls and just told it like it is!

Seems so easy to us, at times doesnt it? To fix it?

just wish it was that easy!
