Office Man

Two men woke up this morning
Tossing and turning either way
They both arose and after yawning
They turned to face the day

Separated by geographical location
They each had a different lifestyle
Contrasted by their own vocation
One watched the news, the other Jeremy Kyle.

They shuffled into the kitchen to eat
One had beans on toast with cheese on top
The other, shredded wheat
One of them lived above a shop

An old shop that sold clothes for charity
His flat was ever so scruffy
With no space at all for clarity
Overall it was quite stuffy

He was not alone
He lived with another
Another who had a loan
This guy was like his brother

When he looked outside all he could see
Were other shops that sold tat
Broken street lamps and burglaries
A couple of rats, an anorexic cat
Its student life and that is that

Meanwhile the other man slips on his tie
Looks in the mirror by the door
And starts to cry
He doesn’t enjoy his life anymore

When he looked outside all he could see
Was a neat garden, his flashy car
there were neatly arranged cushions on the settee
He had on a boring suit, he missed his guitar

He missed his teenage years
Living above that shop
When he laughed so hard he shed some tears
Smoking weed and drinking pop

He could go to some lectures, some he could skive
He could drink til three am
Wake up, drink more at five

It was popular to have no money
Live in a sty
How could he have been happier then?
Only he can tell you why

When you’ve got nothing
You’ve got nothing to lose
People stick by you
You have the freedom to choose

We enter the mill
And sadly people grow old
We live for ourselves until
We do what we’re told

liked that one Sarah

what a good story line Sarah enjoyed the read lots of imagination there well done from Willow

Jeremy Kyle

I'm a big fan of Jeremy Kyle, so I enjoy any reference to him. I also really feel this piece and the statement it makes about time passing and being happier in earlier days. The narration was also quite stark. Good stuff.
