Echoes Reverberate

A threnody on the passing of Richard Wright.

In a distant land a heart in travail
Over echoes of a distant tide
A weeping willow in tears smile
Over mortal flesh and its guile
By a timeless sound and its stride
And sway of strands across his face
In ruins of the great Pompeii,
Beneath his hands rolled the Nile
A simple glance of his gentle eyes,
Encompassed the vastness of the skies.
Let no one say, he has died
Let no one say, he has closed his eyes.
Let him throw the windows wide
And let him climb towards the light.
And call to you from paradise
Let moonlight sing his praise in night
Let sunset sing him lullabies
Let welkins kiss the morning star
Let him bloom in fragrant flower
Let willows not grieve in pain
In heavens we will meet again!
