Two Towers tumble
Smoke, ash, horror
Sudden, irrevocable change
Shattering countless lives
Bodies, dreams, purpose and potential
Broken amidst rubble and debris
Paroxysms of pain and loss

Authors of evil
Inconceivable ruthlessness
Flailing, indiscriminate aggression
Unfathomable fanaticism
Overrides all that is decent, human, holy
Bloodthirsty ideology, misshapen faith
Feeding gory, unsuspecting, sacrifices to an enraged and petty god

Steely edge of reality, a dull and rusty blade
Wounds us with images, incomprehensible cruelty and suffering
Stark, traumatic immediacy blanks our minds and memories
Thoughts slow to a trickle, muted buzzing in the ears
Our collective consciousness attempts to sift and sort centuries of archetypical data
Days like this are never very far away and never very far behind us
“Towers” have been tumbling since the dawn of time
