"I Had to Detach"
“I Had to DETACH”
We twist and pervert
this new tongue we have learned
judge
then desert
disown
abandon
those who love us most
who have grown to depend upon us
We lack the fortitude
to suffer unrequited commitment
refuse to endure
What is required
stay connected
to one so weak
so very, very sick
He may not,
Cannot
receive us graciously
Tired and forlorn
Care and concern for us
call for more than he has to give
Mired in shame
Lacerated by anger
Grifted and
Suckered by confusion
Paralyzed by fear
His heaven is made of brass
He didn’t R.S.V.P.
Missed the wedding
Didn’t return our call
Wasn’t looking well at all
Lost so much weight
How long will he…?
Does he really have to….?
Can you believe he…..?
well I heard he….
What he should do is.....
So it goes, until
We cut the poor bastard off
Completely
Coolly
With quiet and subtle malice
Horribly casual
Unmercifully cavalier
Eventually we tell him
“I just had to detach”
stopping just short of,
“…And let you die”
Broken
Defeated
Alone.
