Happiness

The cause for empires to rise and fall.
Life’s ambition spent on this watery ball.

Women find it in yarn, paintings and flowers.
Men seek it in cars, houses and towers.

Up to the sky we sing a tune,
wishing on clover, stars and the moon.

Happiness is found in many places.
Its seen in the parks on our children’s glee faces.

I ask what it would for me to enjoy?
With who can I ask, who can i employ?

Above all the emotions,
there’s one I am after.

Dakota brings it to me
balled up in his laughter.

Our dog, a good joke, some paint on his nose,
making him giggle when I tickled his toes.

Sharing my space on a bench by the riverside.
Not coming in first but allowing a tie.

Is happiness so important to each one of us,
to be so ambitious, to make such a fuss?

We work and we toil for stocks and accounts.
Its not how much money, it’s not in amounts.

The coin and the glitz only last for so long.
Silver and gold can’t sing me a song.

Can my wants and desires be satisfied,
from a pound of my flesh that comes from my hide?

Baby ease’s her feelings slightly into my heart,
I pray that her presence is never to part.

The knock at the door
must be answered by me.

I missed it once long ago,
to blame is but me.

Best part about this
that I can concur,

is that happiness is found
when I am with her.

So I shake off the past,
walk an extra mile,

for another chance
to share her loving smile.
