Wasklie Wabbit

Ron Kinard (c) 4-2009

as the sun sets
loading my .20 gauge
I wait with anticipation

on the front porch, I sit
with a thermos of coffee
feeling like Elmer Fudd

all these years
you've eluded me
in and out without a trace

how do you do it?
what are you made of?
are you half chicken, half rabbit?

I sit and wonder
will you bleed chocolate?
will you fry up crispy or will you melt?

the moon rises
still no sign, no sound
I have another cup of coffee

all these decades
you've never let me down
in and out without a trace

leaving a basket of goodies
prime pickings for the big bad Wolf
each year you've lucked out

never leaving a hair
just a big basket of calories
in my mind, already consumed

why do you do this?
breaking into my space
leaving, without a trace

you must borrow Santa's sleigh
delivering all these baskets
to everyone, everywhere in one night

I never hear the sleigh bells on Easter
your cottony feet make no noise
maybe you are part Ninja?

none the less, you are breakfast
if I can get a bead on you
you will be fricasseed before sunrise

another hour past
another cup of coffee
where are you wasklie wabbit?

with eyes peeled on the bunny trail
movement out of the corner of my eye
damn, it's just the cat!

lowering my sights
drinking the last cup of coffee
contemplating the kill

the sun begins to rise
another beautiful Spring day
another Easter Sunday

giving up on the lost hunt
your precarious life hangs in the balance
for, once again you've eluded me

maybe this year you bypassed my house
you happened to see me waiting
knowing your demise was at hand

giving up, I clean up my mess
unloading the shotgun, I curse
before me sits a huge basket

the magical rabbit has once again done it
made it past the all night sentry
in and out without a trace

we have no chimney, the back door was locked
none of the windows are broken
none of the dogs even barked

how do you do it, Mr. Bunny?
for 51 years you never cease to amaze me
I'll get you next year, your time will come!

In the mean time, thank you for the goodies
I can already see the scales climbing
a lot of exercise due before swimsuit season

I'm surprised the world isn't over run with Easter bunnies
the way you silly rabbits multiply
are all of your friends and family involved , too?

Is that how you do it?
servicing the entire planet in one night
maybe Santa could learn a thing or two from you?

He has Elves and reindeer
I have a dilemma and a basket of goodies
you, my dear rabbit, have another year to live

next year your sweet ass is mine
you wasklie wabbit will be my Easter banquet
fricasseed or fondue, I don't care

hippity-hop on down the bunny trail
I'll be waiting for you next year
have a Happy Easter and thanks again for the treats!

Funny!

Poor wasklie wabbit, maybe he's invisible as well as a ninja? hehe, loved it all Ron, a perfect poem to bring a smile to my face on Easter Sunday! :D ♥

The only time I look down on another is when I am bending to help them up.

I bit Mr. Cadbury's @$$ today

and it was T-A-S-T-Y! LMAO!! I used to look good in a bathing suit, about as good as your biker wannabe self does in your new photo...now that's saying something! ROTFLMAO Thanks ALL of you for the read and comments, glad it brought a chuckle! Happy Easter to each and everyone!~Ron

Very whimsical!

But you know you can buy rabbit your grocer's freezer now, don't ya? Just a joke! Love this poem...so dark and so crazy!

Chocolate covered ants

can be bought, too! I thought a little variety in the rabbit (tastes like chicken) with chocolate sauce might be an added treat to the Easter feast...LMAO thanks for the reads and comments ya'll, most appreciated!!~Ron
