April 27th,beautiful day,and
its just about three o'clock.
Getting ready to go out with
my shorty,when I hear a pop.
I know the sound, its so familiar,
and easily I connect the dots.
Look out the window,ten feet
away,a kid had just been shot.
Eight other kids running away,
one slips and drops the gun.
Stands and scoops it up,then
smiles like he's having fun.
People screaming,I run down
to see who the kid is,or was.
Get there,see first hand,but now
have to make way for the fuzz.
They jump out of their cars,
come running full stride.
Now more and more people
start coming outside.
Didn't know the kid,but
there are many that do.
Cops start asking questions,
but they won't get a clue.
I counted,13 minutes passed
while leaking from his head.
The ambulance finally here,
but I think the kids dead.
His mom gets there,and she
breaks down on the street.
Everyone watching,while all
his fluids begin to excrete.
Amongst themselves people
talk,different versions of why.
Me I go on my way,its not the
first time I've seen someone die.

Hi Rick
I jumped to your post cause I had not seen you post for awhile... I guess if it meant this kid didn't get shot I would have been happy not to see one today.... There was a kid got shot after a game of basketball here yesterday and died, a few weeks a go a 17 year old pregnant girl was sitting on her porch with her boyfriend when a stray bullet hit her in the neck, she lived long enough to ask her boyfriend to hold her. Man its just not right.
And the sad thing is in some places this has become too common, later-Lee
yeah man
After my last poem,I felt drained, didn't want to write a word.its really sad that this had to happen for me to write something.it actually happened yesterday afternoon, right outside my front window and I wrote it like at three in the morn cause it was bothering me all day.I'm sorry to hear of the kid and the pregnate girl.it has become to common Lee.This kid was like 15 yrs old,the kid that shot him couldn't have been any older than that.its a shame really.like a month ago my bros good friend got shot while buying a sandwich.wrong place wrong time type of thing, just like the girl.its all so sad man.

This is really a great way of expressing this incident. Besides how sad it is, if it is really true, its an amazing write.
Im also happy to see a different subject matter. you are good at writing about many things. See? cuz this is awesome! And so "you"
i love the way you write!
Linda
:)
unfortunately
It is true Linda.I haven't seen something like that in a long time.its really bothering me right now,its all I'm thinking about at the moment.this is the fith person I've seen die right in front of me.like Lee says,it has become common place in the area I live in.people around here have grown acustom to the violence that goes on,and in a way I guess I have too.its part of everyday life.you walk down the street and if you look at the wrong person a funny way,it could very well be your last day.about the writing,I don't know if I'm good or not.but unlike some of you guys here,I have to be inspiried to write something.its easy to write about Wanda,it just flows out of me cause she does inspire me to put all I feel into words.but since the last poem,I spoke to her via myspace and I now see her in a whole new light.after that I decided to give all that up and haven't felt the erge to write anything til this happened.don't know when I'll feel like writing anything again.I do love to do it,especially when I get such good feedback on them when I do write.thanks for reading Linda and for the kind words.til next time I guess.oh and I read most if not all the poems you guys post.I log on thru my phone and it takes a while, that's why I don't comment as much.but I am reading!

Yeah, man, it's crazy out there. This type of thing is no good. I've seen some ill shit happen, but never seen anyone shot in front of me. I think this is a strong write, really felt the last couples lines; sometimes the best poems come out of our daily experiences. This one makes me think of how we in the US spend all types of money fighting for democracy in other countries but can't even keep our people safe. It's fucked up. Stay safe, Rick.
yeah neo
Shit is crazy out here right now,and its not even summer yet!I've seen a lot of crazy things my dude but it never gets easier.it definatly stays with you you know.by the way I agree.we should step back and worry about our own country first and foremost.like this country, but not as far to an extent.those countries work around centuries old religious beliefs that make it hard to coexist with the idea of democracy as its consort.maybe we should live and let live,as long as it doesn't affect us or the rest of the world in a negative way.but we all know there's a lot more at hand than just speading democracy,so we could be here all day talking about this id imagine.anyway, thanks for the read and stuff, and ill try to stay as safe as possible.
