My son, you are not in the army, right now.

That was the first time that I got myself shot.
Silently I sat on the cold field medic’s table.
Not everything on the mission went as I had thought.
Maybe, I had taken on way more than I was able.

Suddenly, the medic abruptly entered the exam room.
He cleans and stitches the wound to help it to mend.
In the midst of the battle yesterday, I thought I was doomed.
Because of my mistake I almost killed all of my men.”

I took a three month leave so I could completely recover.
Before I left, I got my pills from the pharmacy on the base.
I thought about the sad news I received from my mother.
I quickly started my truck and take the drive to her place.

My first night back at home in the city was rough.
My old friends from school ask me the same question.
I ate some good barbecue and drank all kind of stuff.
However, I never revealed any sensitive information.

Around ten that night, I head home and lay on my old bed.
Under the covers, I had just starting drifting off to sleep.
Suddenly the word came, ‘Woman, I will bust you upside your head.’
I looked out the window and saw my mother too scared to weep.

Like I said, I heard the words while I was sleep in my bed.
I saw an evil person was trying to hurt someone I hold dear.
That is when I decided to make sure this stupid fool was dead.
So quickly but very quietly, outside in the dark alley, I must soon appear.

By instinct, I reached in my pack and grab my old Bowie knife.
The U. S. Army Ranger must be prepared right for the fight.
The knife was the tool I choose to use to take a man’s life.
Then, I rushed outside to help my mom by the street light.

The unaware criminal never saw me, I came up from behind.
With one move, I quickly stabbed him in the meat of his thigh
‘Fool,” I said, ‘you really must be out of your drugged out mind.’
‘Because you tried to rob and hurt my mom, tonight, you will die.’

‘I will rip your beating heart out when I cut open your chest.”
However, my mom’s words stopped me from doing it, somehow.
Suddenly upon my ears, her tender voice words came to rest.
She cried out loudly, ‘My son, you are not in the Army, right now.’
