Oh my god, Aliens

As a kid I tried to picture an alien,
I heard they had to register.
I very much wanted to see one.
The pictures in my mind were varied
different colors, shapes
all manner of sounds.
On t.v. I heard about
legal and illegal aliens,
I wondered deeply about this.
How could they get papers
from where they came from?
I was perplexed by it all.
One day I actually was able
to fulfill my dream of
meeting an alien,
but he looked just like me.
Then I wondered
what's the big deal?

When I was a kid, growing up

When I was a kid, growing up in Charlotte, NC, aliens were the guys on Star Trek.
Maybe that's why aliens from other countries just seemed to be other earthlings. And so I too asked, what's the big deal? They don't seem to want to vaporize me or turn me into a slave on the mining moons of Harsgar, so why worry?

P.S.
Do you mind if I post your poem on my blog?
I will give you the credit as "Raskin".

what

blog is that? Sometimes I think to look at a problem and remember the innocence of childhood can reflect a different light on it. I watched all the sci fi programs on t.v., the mutant movies, the space movies, when I thought of aliens my imagination took off. This poem came out of the issues you brought up which I thought were interesting, thanks for the inspiration so yeah you can post and use my pen name. raskin
