Mums secret

My Mum, I was the only one who called her that.
I thought she was all seeing, all knowing.
As kids we could get into a bit of trouble,
suddenly her voice would boom out of the kitchen,
my brothers and I would stop,
look at each other,
our mouths in the sign of oh, oh.
In the winter we would get carried away
building forts and tents in the living room,
giggling and fighting over sheets, chairs, books etc...
Her tone told us we better get busy cleaning up.
We always wondered
how she could tell what we were doing.
Years later,
I was sitting chatting with her in the kitchen,
I looked at the picture,
that had been there for as long as I can remember,
she looked up at the picture and smiled.
In it she and I saw the reflection of my children,
her grandchildren building a fort.
Finally I knew her secret.

Very Sweet Raskin

This is so sweet Raskin, I can see my self with my brother and also my kids in this one. Making forts were the best. A secret hideaway from the grown ups!
Linda

Thanks linda

I write these for my kids, little moments with my mom or dad, my brothers. They were fun. It makes my kids laugh, smile sometimes they get a bit teary eyed but they appreciate them. raskin

I gotta hand it to ya raskin....

you describe childhood so well and I thought it was only us as kids who built forts in the living room, there was seven of us kiddos, and we kept mum quite busy, but like you said, that tone would draw the line, and u kinda knew ur limits, right?,lol...my mum used to say she had eyes in the back of her head, we used to sit behind her examining it, we convinced ourselves we could make out eyes through her hair,haha....nice write, peace

yeah repenter

I thought that too. The moment I wrote about here was a passing of the baton of my mom to me. It was a moment of recognition I shared with her and it's nice to write about. raskin
