Tribute 2 My Dead Friend

There I stand in my homies room-frozen
I felt like everything in my life was preparation 4 that moment
The door was smashed in
His skull was bashed in
I screamed at the top of my lungs
"God look what you have done!
He was close 2 me! Can't you pick another one?"
Then I waited, the lord never replied
I had 2 accept it my homie just died
i loved my fallen friend and there were no goodbyes
But the memory of him helped guide me through life
I didn't let his death be in vain
I studied and learned from the pain
He always told me not 2 cry when he died
If I said I didn't then I would've lied
As I wiped the last tear from my eyes
I realized
that with him my last living fear died
And I couldn't help but 2 smile
He's in a better place and I'm going 2 join him in a while.

Sad

Nothing in life could prepare anyone for this, Intense write. So sad but a very realistic view of what life is like, especially in the larger cities. Think positive and reach for your goals, there is too much of a good life out there waiting if you have the courage to find it!~Ron

The sad part is that it's

The sad part is that it's real. This happened 3 years ago when I was 15. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I'm glad u got enough 2 recognize this because usually noone sees the things that happen in lower class America. Thanx Ron!

Sad

I grew up in Decatur, GA, just outside Atlanta. The neighborhood I grew up in was once very nice, evolving into a crack haven. I could tell you horror stories about the place! I'm sure we could trade them. I'm glad to be away from it, truth be known, but even the way it was, it was hard to leave "home". When I was your age the only worries I had was if I had enough money to buy "herb" and still put gas in my tank to get back and forth to work. Times were so much easier and safer then. It's only going to get worse before it gets better! Hang in there my friend, it sounds like you have your head on straight and headed in the right direction. Don't let anyone side track you and take you down the wrong road~Ron

Thanks. It is calm where I

Thanks. It is calm where I live now. It's like your description of what your hometown used 2 be, but in a way I kinda miss the big city. I f it weren't 4 the obstacles I had 2 overcome I wouldn't be who I am 2day. You know I got a lot of respect 4 you Ron because you know what I came out of, but your not worried about that. I'm glad someone can see me 4 what I am, despite the troubles that made me. Thanks again Ron. Maybe some time we could trade horror stories. Ha ha-I got enough of them!

I don't know you...

...but I know where you are coming from. In a way I feel as I do know you from your poems. You reveal a lot about yourself when you write. Clearing away the cobwebs helps rid yourself of the burdens you carry. "What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger" (not sure whose quote that is but it fits here) and it seems you are growing stronger each day. As long as you learn from your past and don't repeat your mistakes, you are on the right path. No one said the path was easy, no one said life is easy! You are on the right road and the big city will always be there. Getting away from it for a while then going back and seeing it from a different perspective, it doesn't have the appeal it once had. (at least it didn't for me) It's nice to be able to get up and have fresh air, seeing nothing but trees instead of buildings and houses and people all around. To be able to walk outside without the fear of having a gun stuck in your face for a few dollars is refreshing (and a blessing) in its self! Some things are better put behind us, forgotten if possible and forgiven no matter what! "We can't change what we were, only what we become" R/K 4-2009
