The Plug-in Drug
No pointed needle is needed
To flood your bloodstream
And saturate your brain
Even poison your dream.
This drug is given via sockets –
The source is truly electric,
Endless images and sounds
So astonishingly hectic.
The birth of a visionary dream
Existed to inform, to entertain.
Has it really been helpful?
A veritable boon or bane?
What would John Logi Baird think?
If he were alive today?
Would he condemn or condone
The sights and sounds on display?
Yes, virtually every household
Has a television screen
That daily bombards our senses
With many a real and imagined scene.
Commanding all our attention
From that corner of the room
It dispenses a pot pourri of images
Of love, of death, of doom.
My, how the Media feeds us
On a daily diet so exceedingly fast;
Mind-numbing facts at times,
Makes me wonder how long it can last.
But, for now we gorge ourselves
On these images, so surreal.
How do we wean ourselves off
This plug-in drugs great appeal?
