The Fragility of Tranquillity

Strolling along the river
I saw beauty at every turn,
I sensed a sweet serenity
As my heart did truly burn.

Birds were flying carefree
High up in the clear blue,
Enjoying the sunshine it seemed,
Warming each wing so new.

Daffodils, like trumpets of gold
Appeared to dance in the breeze,
And a fleet of Mallards swam
Beneath the Weeping Willow trees.

Suddenly, out of the blue,
A jet fighter screamed overhead
And left a ringing in my ears
And my nerves hung on a thread.

Next, a juggernaut thundered
Along the road nearby
Causing me to let out
A very irritated sigh.

Just then a fire-engine’s siren
Blurted out its raucous noise
Alerting all to make way
For those heroic boys.

This fast-paced world too soon
Will snatch away our peace,
So, we need to savour each minute
Before life’s stresses increase.

Wow this is great

Paul this is great.I can relate to every line in it.I great write.

Thanks Gloria

Not many peaceful places left eh? Need to grab hold of those rare occasions we find. Glad you liked reading it.

Paul

natural and inspiring

I really enjoyed it..Even the title makes you bother read it...really good, smoothe and colorful..keep up the good work!

:-)

Often a title such as this is filed away in my brain, sometimes not bearing fruit many months later.
I was pleased with this result...
Glad you appreciated it.Thanks.

poem

Great poem, but the title says it all. Tranquility is fragile, all the more reason to treasure each moment. Thanks, Ezmerelda

It's an all too common experience

these days. Thanks for the feedback.

I loved this one

Paul this was a great write as are all your poems, but this was so real I loved your tranquility and then the disturbing noises of the modern age, spoiling it all, so true of life as we know it now. hugs from Willow

i agree

You can be in the middle of nowhere, (such as north Scotland) drinking in the views, then, boom, a jet fighter appears, so low you can see the pilot! ...I'm thinking of buying an Island! (in my dreams!!!)

How true!

Being a nature lover, I am in total agreement with the sentiment in your poem. Parks and forests give us all a healing sanctuary from our noisy, stressful society.

nice
