Mea Culpa
Drag me before a jury if you must
And I will confess my guilt;
No black heart, no deceitfulness,
No innocent blood was spilt -
Just the sight of your smile
Caused my heart to truly wilt.
I couldn’t resist the temptation
Of a single, tender kiss,
Yet, if this is an evil crime
The sin of child-like bliss,
Then my heart’s pure actions
Must have really been amiss.
Was I so naïve as to dare
To pluck the rose from the stem?
To steal a nubile heart indeed?
To tarnish a virgin gem?
To pilfer the lovely lustre
Of a sparkling Diadem?
If you find that this is so,
This conclusion you do make,
Then, I admit, it is my fault
Your love I should forsake;
But, I cannot agree to this,
For my heart it would truly break.

it is a tender, guileless request of love to give and love to receive. I enjoyed reading, thanks for sharing. raskin
