Cardinalis Cardinalis
.
Early morning song
Echoing from trees
Glancing upwards
Amazed what I see
Flash of crimson
Peeking through green
Silently I stand
Transfixed, unseen
Red gilded plumage
Beautiful grace
Flamboyant herald
Black masked face
Calling for love
Crest perked high
Warbling repeatedly
Mating season nigh
Moments pass serenely
Sun above the hill
Camouflaged in shadow
I remain ever still
Answer arrives soon
Ruddy brown female
Flitting among branches
Responding without fail
Pairing up they dance
Amongst the leaves
Partaking of berries
The male retrieved
Inevitable departure
Flying up and away
Dancing on the wind
Embracing the day
