When The Storm Blows By: Will You Be There? Part 13
This is part of a series and must be read through the end to understand. It's long I know but only way to get full effect. Kind of old too but don't hold that against me.
Commencing
Today's the day.
Before school's out,
And dad's drunker than a skunk,
I'll have left this world.
The thought scares me,
And yet excites me,
All the same.
I get ready
And walk downstairs.
I yell goodbye,
As I walk out the door,
To no one in particular.
I contemplate whether I should,
Tell Mom I love her and Dad.
I decide its useless,
And grab my backpack,
All part of the show.
I hurry across town to the park.
I notice Brooklyn waiting,
In the designated position.
She, too, has a backpack shouldered.
I walk over and give a slight smile.
She returns one.
I fall into step beside her,
Back to her house.
I savor everything I see,
Knowing it'll be the last time.
Silence is the only thing spoken
The entire three blocks.
