Little puppies pay the price
for them there's no other way
for all the love they have to give
they haven't the means to say

Wagging tails with such elation
with adoration to express
waiting always patiently
to hear their master's steps

Yearning begging at the table
to glimpse what people've tasted
giving into big brown eyes
another can of dog food wasted

Hours spent just watching
when dog hits that playful mood
games of fetch and tug of war
with masters worn out too soon

Hearing noises people don't
aware of night's dark sounds
guarding ever faithfully
when no one else is around

Like children who've lost all restraint
they give their love so freely
and run to you in merry haste
yet sit at your side so meekly

Looking down at man's best friend
locked in facination
thinking now if only men
could share such dedication
