the world as a whole is struggling
to realize a greater experience of the sacred
tokenism remains rife in churches
throughout time
we have used the bible
to advance cruelty and injustice
to keep slaves
deny native and black people have souls
( Jesus was born in Israel you really think he was white?)
to stone women
kill innocent civilians
to burn Jews (Jesus was a Jew)
advance national interests
deny women birth control
we still read the same bible the slave holder did
yet we no longer believe that God is for slavery
human stupidity and predjudice
trying to contain God
I can't imagine God in heaven
sick at heart over a gay couple sharing Christmas dinner
My Jesus hung out with prostitutes,
lepers and beggers
civilization is threatened
by the hijacking of the religious imagination
faith is
a massive doorway to stand under
during life's little earthquakes
