My Graveyard Encounter
A lonely graveyard on the hill
Through twisted trees, I saw
Its occupants so very still
Beneath the windy moor.
I saw their lichened, grey headstones
In twilight's dying light
Atop this place of bleaching bones
As day passed into night.
They lived their lives until they died
Now laid beneath the stone
Bereft of love and human pride
Forgotten and alone.
At their cold graves, I deeply stared
Damp chilling winds went by
As spectral, misty moonlight glared
I heard a ghostly sigh.
That ghoulish sound froze me with dread
This scene so grim and stark
So to my home, I quickly fled
On pathways through the dark
If you, at nighttime, pass that way
Have courage and take care
The dead await all those who stray
So heed my words, beware!

Scary
You managed to scare me there... and you had good rhymes... awesome writing! thanks for sharing!
Hi USI!
If I this poem scared you, then I did my job. Nothing as creepy as being at an old graveyard in the dead of night. And actually encountering a ghost there would be terrifying. Glad I could convey that experience!

You're so welcome! My posts usually fall under the same umbrella. Dark and a bit on the scary (borderline gruesome) side. That was the reason I got drawn to your work. Keep it up!
creepy
I don't know if I've seen your creepy and dark before, but I like it! Graveyards at night are spooky places, especially old graveyards. Damn good writing, NF. Your descriptive writing is some of the best here.
Thank you, Neocon!
Glad you liked my spooky poem. And thank you for your very kind words. I wanted to capture the atmosphere of an old graveyard at night and the dread of encountering a ghost there. Am very into ghosts and hauntings, and have been to many haunted places.
