Free Will

Just how much can we blame
On ignorance, naivete
When maturity catches up with us
Bad choices our dismay

Responsibility consumes us
As does guilt and angry “why’s”
The mirror doesn’t look so good
Can’t look into those eyes

As children, we dismissed things
Chalked it up to innocence
But now we face the music
For we now own our own sense

Those who’d gone before us
Could have left us so much more
Their knowledge horded selfishly
Please guide us, we’d implore

But sadly, we must face ourselves
Though ugly that can be
The one I must most answer to
Regrettably is me
