You couldn't move,
You couldn't speak.

On the hospital bed

"See Orion?"
He hunts for food,
And at his side are his faithful friends.

For eternity,
They run, run 'round,
Strong and healthy.

You couldn't answer,
You couldn't say
That things wouldn't always be this way.
That you used to be mighty,
And you used to be bold,
But you'd soon be in heaven,
Not sickly nor old.

And there you lay
In the small hospice room
As we sat vigil,
And we prayed for you.

"See Pegasus?"
His soul soars above
On white, ethereal wings,
Always watching over.
Bathed in the starlight,
He never dies;
Steadfast sanctuary
Up in the sky.

You couldn't touch me
Or hug me and say
That you'd never die either;
In my heart you would stay.
You couldn't tell daddy
Or mommy that there
Was no need to cry
And that you weren't scared.

"See Aquarius?"
He gives water of life
To the regions of heaven,
And to the tears we cry.
Though we may fall melancholy,
And though we may weep
We learn to live once more
As time slowly creeps...

But you could stay no longer,
Your time here was up.
And with one sharp, short gasp
You were on your way.
With your empty vessel,
We laid down and wept
But that night I could see you
In my dreams where I slept.

The stars watching over,
Heaven and Paradise.
You are among them
Without heartache nor vice.
You've no need for sorrow
Nor any distress,
And one day I'll join you
After I go to rest.
