Liberty
My fair savior, my princess,
Ever polished and prim;
Clad in flowing silk gown and frost-bitten gloves,
Concealing delicate hands
And piercing claws all the same;
Woe to your captors!
What awaits such injustice?
My fair savior, my madam,
Confined canary longing
To fly out stained-glass windows;
To shred hands who but choke.
"Yes, you may feed me
And clothe me in your raiment
Of sweet saccharine lies,
This castle of deception...
"How did I become
Entangled in this mess?
Ne'er would've imagined
Dreams fulfilled could ensnare."
A divine little finch
Behind golden cell bars,
"Do re mi, fa so la,"
She trills with every step taken,
One pace closer to me,
Two footsteps back to her cage;
Will you e'er get ahead, dear?
To go by your own accord?
"Fa so la, ti and do, and do re mi again,"
Though "I pine to be free,"
Is all I comprehend.
I may be little and young
But my sharp eyes are keen,
Your wings are bound, my songbird;
Will you consent,
And be set free?
It's not like you're not smiling;
It's not like you don't lie.
Prideful and illusive,
Dearest, aren't you?
Only a fool
Can't see through your devise;
Let me in, darling, I'm tapping
On the glass.
This may be
Your only chance, darling, dear;
You can come with me, finally;
You can learn how to soar.
Or would like to stay bound to the Earth?
The world has turned sour, honey,
You know that well.
What gives them the right to
Simply walk away?
They left you for dead
And now bind you hand-and-foot,
Smothering your grace with good intentions and neglect.
Do you honestly expect
Anyone to believe
That you want to stay?
To be jailed by wrongdoing?
Reach out to me,
With your brightly feathered appendage,
For I am here, softly tapping
On the tinted stained-glass.
