The Earthquake
On a fateful day the world woke up
to a heart rending cry of loss.
Unending tremor thru lives that wouldn't stop
as parents scrapped and cried
their only hope buried in the rubble.
They asked questions, questions that hung in the air.
As hopelessness stretched out,
they had nothing left to share.
Some had lost life's possessions, others their life itself
Some stood breathing tho their life lay buried in the rubble.
They tried to pin the blame on their government, others nature
and still others on the God they had been schooled to despise.
When evening came their cries had died down to a whimper,
their pain an event in the past to be discussed over forums.
Soon like the fading day,it will just be a date in the history...
the day the parents became orphans in China

Very well written
you have captured the earth quake very well in poem the disaster it brings and the heartache afterwards.I have never experienced an eathquake but can imagine the horrors and great pain when it is over ,thanks for sharing this one hugs from Willow
It moved me
The line, "unending tremor thru lives" is interesting. As the actual tremor faded the tremor in their lives literally is unending. Very perceptive of you. Sad that the day ends up as merely another date in history. Good one. Keep em coming...
a sad day for the world...
that you captured so well, mimi. It was almost like you took me there - very well felt and described by you. Thanks for this moving poem. joyce
willo
thankyou for your words...it was so sad to see those parents on the t.v.,helpless ...
poet master
thank you for your kind words.considering that China has one child policy where parents are allowed to have only one child legally and that child grows up with the responsibilty of taking care of the parents and the paternal and maternal grandparents in their old age...it was more heart rending to see their helpless ness standing before the collapsed school building with their children buried...as if losing their children was not enough
Joyce
Thank you Joyce for your words,if you had seen them on t.v. as i did,it would have broken your heart, the utter helplessness...i couldn,t even begin to describe it.
A breath of fresh air
This piece reminds me of the things GOD shows me in my heart when I write. Things that are not necessarily of my own understanding but what he wants me to learn, share or pay attention to. And the gift HE has given you is a heavenly empathy. Thank you for sharing with us.
And to the comments of the other I am reminded how in scriptures children are in some parts related to arrows in your quiver. And how are they like arrows except they go in the direction you point them. They are accurate by the quality of their making and by the skill of the hand who guides them they hit the target. The target they reach is the fulfillment of the will of the one who sends them out. The more of them you have the wider your impact on the future. Yet how precious is each one brought up with love. How precious indeed when you realize it is time for you to go on and pass on that which you inherited from the hand and quiver from which you yourself where drawn.
And what conclusions can I draw if all that inherit truth, love, and vision from that which came before and follow out in obedience with joy to the target except that I shall one day find them again clean, straight and accounted for not by anything I have done but held high in honor in GODs quiver and yet shall I bless every day the name of he Jesus who directs me and share everyday the prize of heavens glory that none shall come up short or none be caught with an empty quiver on the day of their visitation by trial, tribulation or even heavens angels. For I am only full when I am empty and I am weak but HE is strong. Yet in HIM are we all mighty when clothed in HIS righteousness. Take comfort from above again I say take comfort...
